ACVL co-invested with the CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation) to commercialise a patented variety of non-genetically modified barley with significant health benefits in a delicious range of products.
Trials have shown that the product has beneficial health attributes in the areas of cholesterol reduction, bowel health and diabetes. As the product naturally contains a higher than normal quantity of sugars, pleasantly flavoured attractive consumer products are being developed.
Clear expressions of interest have been received from several major Australian and international food companies for potential uses of the product. The CSIRO and ACVL are operating a Joint Venture in order to commercialise this opportunity.
