Hindmarsh—the ACT-based property, construction and investment group—has become the first privately-owned Canberra company to sponsor a major exhibition at the National Gallery of Australia.
The company's managing director, John Hindmarsh, said he was delighted to be the major sponsor of the Bill Viola: The Passions exhibition which opens at the NGA this weekend.
"It's an exciting, vibrant and dynamic exhibition which I am sure will generate an immense amount of public interest," Mr Hindmarsh said.
"There's no question it has the sort of 'wow' factor which will attract visitors from around Australia."
"One of the reasons Hindmarsh decided to sponsor Bill Viola: The Passions was because it will only be seen at the National Gallery. It won't be going on tour. So, unless you already live here, you'll have to come to Canberra to see it - and I'm sure people will."
As well as having a long-held interest in the arts, Mr Hindmarsh said he was also "passionate" about the need to promote the nation's capital.
"What better way to do it than by encouraging people to come and visit the National Gallery, which is one of our true national icons."
"This is a fantastic exhibition. It's full of life—and so is Canberra. We just need to encourage people to come and see for themselves."
