‘Hindmarsh wins building award for ANU school’

Builders responsible for the John Curtin School of Medical Research were recognised last night for promoting excellence in the building and construction industry.

Canberra-based company Hindmarsh stole the show after winning the Master Builder’s Association Project of the Year award for its design and construction of the research school at the Australian National University.  Master Builder’s Association ACT executive director David Dawes said the building was likely to become a Canberra landmark on its architectural merits.

He said the judges had been particularly impressed by the complex design, innovative construction and excellent workmanship involved.

The award for subcontractor of the year went to National Fixing Limited – also for its work on the medical research school.

Other awards given were for civil engineering, commercial building, kitchen and bathroom design and construction, environmental and occupational health and safety.

About 1500 people attended the gala dinner at the National Convention Centre.
