Housing – Maintenance & Upgrade

Hindmarsh has a large housing maintenance operation, which includes:

• Programmed maintenance on behalf of SA Housing Trust for 22,000 properties in Adelaide, South Australia over a 10 year period.
• Maintenance and upgrading of more than 4,500 properties in south-eastern NSW for the NSW Department of Housing. This covered properties between Nowra and Bega on the south coast and Bowral, Goulburn and Cooma inland. Hindmarsh held the contract for this work between April 2000 and July 2002.

Tourism & Hospitality

Hindmarsh investments and activities in tourism and hospitality include:

• City Walk Hotel: Backpacker accommodation in the heart of Canberra city centre.
• King O'Malley's Tavern: A themed Irish tavern in City Walk, Canberra City.
• Regional Express Airlines: Hindmarsh is a major shareholder in the national carrier, Rex.
• Bodalla Arms Hotel: Historic hotel in the NSW south coast town of Bodalla.

Investment Syndication

Hindmarsh’s experience in the property and construction industries led to expansion overseas. It has developed and implemented successful investment syndication and innovative, quality developments.

An example of this innovation is the Palm Springs, USA residential development project initiated by Hindmarsh involving syndication to investors from Australia. The development, valued at US$6 million, has been a success both economically and as an environmentally friendly development.

This was the fifth major property purchase, refurbishment and development undertaken by Hindmarsh in the US which resulted in sales of over 600 residential units in Palm Springs, California, Scottsdale Arizona, Oakland and Walnut Creek in the San Francisco Bay area and downtown San Francisco. Properties included:

• The Keys, Walnut Creek 340 units
• Portobello, Oakland 125 units
• Center Court, Scottsdale 150 units
• Palm Springs 65 units

Consulting Services & Feasibility Studies

Hindmarsh's practical property expertise allows it to provide a wide range of consulting services for clients. The type of work has included:

• Planning studies such as a multi-disciplinary review of Northbourne Avenue in Canberra;
• Survey of the condition of ACT Housing properties and development of options for their future use or redevelopment;
• Due diligence for sale of Commonwealth properties such as the AGSO Building, Russell Defence offices and other ACT buildings.
